Now that Dad’s Eye View is available, it’s time for a contest!

I’d like to see the book in its natural habitat: out and about in the Twin Cities area, either at one of the 52 locations covered in the book or at some new and exciting place that I’ve never explored. This isn’t the sort of book that should be sitting on your shelf, after all: it’s just the right size to slip into a jacket pocket or backpack, and it should end up tattered and frayed like my old Boy Scout Field Guide after you’ve taken it on some adventures. So for this photo contest, I’m looking for pictures of the book (or the iPhone app in use, which might be trickier to capture …) in use; here are the guidelines:

  1. The picture should depict the book or app being used to help you find and explore someplace great in the Twin Cities
  2. It should be added to the Dad’s Eye View Flickr group (not a Flickr member? Why not? Basic accounts are free, and it’s a great place to connect with like-minded explorers!)
  3. It should be tagged “dadseyeview”.
  4. You can enter as many pictures as you like!

I’ll select a picture at random each Sunday between now and Father’s Day on June 19, when I’ll select three winning entries. (If this contest goes well, we’ll come up with some more clever and engaging ways to select the winners.)

The prize will be your choice between three items: a copy of Dad’s Eye View, a print of a photograph from the book, or a t-shirt (details on the print and shirt to come).

Leave a comment here with any questions; I look forward to seeing your pictures!

The Dad’s Eye View project started with some pictures of my adventures with Jack and Peter that I put on Flickr and my photoblog, so it’s only fitting that we should have a Flickr group to go along with it.

The Dad’s Eye View group is a great place to share your pictures of adventures around the Twin Cities region. It’s open to any Flickr member to post their pictures, though there are of course a few rules: pictures should be appropriate for all ages, should be related to family adventures in the Twin Cities area, and you should have the permission of the parents/guardians of children shown in photographs to share them. We may also use pictures posted in the pool on the Facebook page, Twitter feed, or this blog; if you wish to share your picture but do not wish to have it shared on one of these places, please state this in the description of the photograph. And of course any copyright or Creative Commons restrictions you’ve placed on your Flickr stream and individual photos will be respected if we use your pictures elsewhere.

There are a lot of really talented Dad (and Mom, Grandparent, Aunt, Uncle, etc.) photographers around here; we look forward to seeing what you have to share!
